iPhone Essentials: Mastering the Basics for Everyday Use

-

Seeking ways to minimize the time spent on routine tasks on your iPhone? Apple’s iOS harbors numerous shortcuts designed to boost your efficiency. Discover swift iPhone tips that will enhance your productivity over time.

Cool iPhone Tricks

1. Quickly Switch Apps

For iPhone users with Face ID and no physical Home button, there’s a handy gray bar at the bottom of the screen in apps. This feature simplifies navigating back to the Home Screen or flipping through open applications without needing to access the App Switcher directly.

To cycle through your active applications, a left swipe from this gray bar at the screen’s bottom brings you to your last used app. Continuing to swipe left will display all active apps in sequence. To return to your initially opened app, simply swipe right until you locate it.

2. Quick Smartphone Cleaning

You can use a phone cleaning app or spend an hour to get the same effect. Which option is better? I think most will deservedly choose the free iPhone cleaner app. With CleanUp you can get rid of duplicate photos and videos, as well as compress videos. This Apple cleaner can also create a secure memory partition with password protection.

3. Use the Search Feature

The iPhone comes equipped with a Search function akin to the Spotlight feature on Macs, which stands out as one of the most efficient ways to launch applications. Not only is this feature great for quickly opening apps, but it also supports web searches and can even function as a simple calculator.

To access the Search feature from your iPhone’s Home Screen or Lock Screen, all you need to do is swipe downwards. This gesture brings up the search bar at the top of your screen, allowing you to look up virtually anything.

In instances where you’re already in an app but wish to perform a search, start by revealing the Notification Center with a downward swipe from the top edge of your display. Following this, a second swipe down will present the search interface.

4. Ask Siri

Siri serves as your hands-free assistant, enabling you to manage your iPhone with voice commands. You can leverage Siri for a variety of tasks, such as initiating a reminder, launching applications, or alternating tracks on Spotify or Apple Music. It’s also equipped to tackle basic inquiries, including math queries or conducting swift internet searches, all without the need to physically interact with your iPhone.

For moments of levity, feel welcome to engage Siri with humorous inquiries, from proposing marriage to debating the superiority between Apple and Google.

5. Markup

Markup is an incredibly useful feature that often goes unnoticed. It provides the capability to modify screenshots and images, include signatures in PDFs and various documents, insert text, and sketch directly on pictures, all without the need for additional applications.

To annotate images:

  • Start by opening an image from your gallery and select Edit, followed by tapping on the Markup icon represented by a pencil within a circle.
  • Press the Plus icon to introduce elements such as Description, Text, Signature, or use the Magnifier for closer inspection.
  • After choosing and applying your edits, hit Done, and then Done once more to finalize.

6. Open the Camera in a Flash

Accessing the Camera app on your iPhone is designed for speed and convenience, allowing you to capture moments almost instantly. When your iPhone is locked, quickly get to the camera by either swiping left on your lock screen or by pressing and holding the Camera icon situated in the lower right corner of the display.

Should your iPhone be unlocked, the Camera app remains just as easy to access. Start by swiping down from the top of your phone’s screen to bring up the Notification Center, and then swipe left. This streamlined approach ensures you never miss capturing important or spontaneous moments.

7. Correct Siri’s Pronunciation

Siri boasts a remarkable level of intelligence, yet it occasionally stumbles over certain names. Fortunately, you can lend a hand in improving its pronunciation accuracy with these steps:

  1. Navigate to Contacts and choose the contact whose name pronunciation you wish to clarify.
  2. Select ‘Edit,’ followed by ‘add field.’
  3. Choose ‘Phonetic first, middle, or last name’ as your option.
  4. Enter the phonetic pronunciation of your contact’s name in the designated Phonetic field.
  5. Hit ‘Done’ to save your changes.

Alternatively, for a hands-free method, you can instruct Siri directly by saying, “Hey Siri, learn to pronounce [contact’s name].” Following this, Siri will request the correct pronunciation of both the first and last names.
